Audi HSS Sailing Center gives you the possibility to sail throughout the year without having to invest in your own boat.
At Audi HSS Sailing Center you will find your own place, no matter what your skills level is. With the help of professional coaches you will be able to develop your sailing skills faster than anywhere else.
Sailing as a part of everyday life
HSS is situated in Skifferholmen, just in front of Helsinki (5 mins with the ferry). The central location means that you can come training for just a few hours also during weekdays – you can leave home/office at 4pm and be back at 9pm. HSS is also one of the most active junior sailing clubs in Finland, so also the younger members of the family can start a new hobby here.
A wide variety of boats
We’ve got 22 boats in four different boat classes, something for everyone! Check our fleet page for more information.
Weekly training program
- Laser 16: Boat handling and maneuvers: an easy way to enter the world of sailing, even with little or no sailing experience.
- 606: Fleet racing tactics and boat speed.
- Elliott 6m: Match racing tactics and boat handling.
- SM40: Occasional training and races for more experienced match race teams.
Top coaches at your service
Pasi Palmu, Ville Väresmaa, Dennis Paetau and Niclas Borenius are among the best coaches in Finland with a long experience. During the season there are 17 to 18 weeks of training, with every weekday (excl. Wed) having some class out with a coach. This amount of instructed sailing is alone worth the membership!
Weekly match and fleet races
- HSS Wednesday race, all keelboat classes and skill levels welcome. Food, drinks and socializing afterwards.
- In addition to the Wednesday race, there will be regular match and fleet races.
HSS also has an active classic fleet of meter-boats (5, 6m and 8m boats) and Sailing Center members are often asked to join in. Our sailors also have often taken part in the Hanko Regatta. Check the full events calendar here.
It’s a sailing community
The Center is driven by voluntary work and talkoo-mentality, which means that everyone pitches in. Boat maintenance and race and party organizing is done together in a friendly atmosphere. The workload is divided between all the members and is not overwhelming per person.
Many of our members are expats and other English-speakers. The working language tends to be English quite often, so don’t be afraid even if you can’t speak Finnish!
As a member of Audi HSS Sailing Center you are also a member of HSS. As a member you are covered by the general insurances of the Finnish Yacht Association. The membership benefits include free ferry transportation to the island, hefty discount at HSS Boathouse Restaurant and Skiffer and many other things. Check the full list on HSS website.
